Adult Education - Curriculum Specialist

About the role

The role involves increasing adult students' achievement in the assigned curriculum area under the supervision of the Director of Adult and Community Education. Key responsibilities include evaluating curriculum, assisting in coordinating educational materials, and providing instructional support to teachers.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates curriculum and coordinates requests for and ordering of instructional materials.
• Coordinates curriculum development and informs teachers and administration about new materials and practices.
• Assists in disseminating information about accountability, assessments, and professional learning communities.
• Plans and conducts department/program meetings and professional development activities.
• Designs new courses of study through needs assessment and collaboration with teachers and community partners.
• Conducts orientation for new teachers and maintains up-to-date course syllabi.
• Maintains and enhances the resource library for all programs.
• Works with other program and district administrators to align learning outcomes with district and state standards.

Requirements

Required: Appropriate valid California teacher credential; Bachelors' Degree; CBEST. Desired: MA in education, curriculum development, adult education, or related field. At least three years of successful adult education teaching experience in designated curricular area. Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher. Employment in a current teaching assignment preferred.

Qualifications

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret academic standards and assessment data. Ability to identify multiple pathways for students to achieve curricular objectives, including rigorous academic goals, experiential learning, and constructivist strategies. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to develop an environment of collaborative work with department members.

Skills

Knowledge of adult education trends, standards, practices, and research findings. Proficiency in using current and emerging technologies for adult education. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

$61.32 - $80.90 hourly starting salary (CHSTA Unit B Salary Schedule).
