Adult Basic Education Instructor TEACHER ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE

About the role

The candidate will create a classroom learning environment in which assigned students make measurable progress towards identified goals as indicated by the successful completion of requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literacy and Life Skills and/or a Maryland High School Diploma.

Responsibilities

• Conduct instruction to assigned inmate students, resulting in their progress toward successful completion of the requirements for a Maryland State Adult Literacy and Life Skills Certificate.
• Assist the Principal in areas of school accountability and management by providing advice, guidance, and training to teachers.
• Plan and organize time to provide for effective instruction.
• Assess and record student progress using a variety of techniques and indicators.
• Work as a member of an instructional team to achieve success for all students.

Requirements

• Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
• Teachers in State-operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2).
• All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance to determine whether any monies are owed as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following:

• One (1) year of experience teaching in an alternative education setting.
• One (1) year of experience teaching adult learners.
• One (1) year of experience teaching institutionalized or disadvantaged populations.

Educational credentials from foreign countries must be evaluated by an approved education review service (e.g., International Consultants of Delaware, Inc. or World Education Services Inc.). This evaluation must be submitted prior to hire.
