NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The Day Habilitation Direct Service Professional’s (DSP) first priority is to support each individual participating in the program to achieve self sufficiency and confidence through learning and succeeding in what is accomplished. The DSP completes day-to-day duties and activities that help the agency and each individual to lead a self-determining life by providing support and information necessary to build self-esteem and assertiveness and to make decisions that pertain to their day-to-day life and their future and goals.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger motions, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enhances the ability of the individual to lead a self-determining life by providing the support and information necessary to build self-esteem, assertiveness, and decision-making skills.
- Keeps abreast of relevant resources and information.
- Teaches skills, provides supports, and builds on individual strengths and capabilities in a humane and respectful way.
- Provides choices to help maximize/maintain skills, abilities, and independence by developing integrated friendships and other relationships within the Center and in the community.
- Identifies crises, defuses situations, evaluates and determines intervention strategies, and documents incidents on an Incident Report to give to the Coordinator.
- Affixes to all policies stipulated in the Employee Handbook and all other policy and procedural guidelines.
- Supports individuals by modeling how to prevent illness, avoid unnecessary risk, and understand options and possible consequences related to their physical health, safety, and emotional well-being.
- Safeguards and respects the confidentiality and privacy of the individual. This includes not sharing personal information with others and on social media.
- Protects all individuals from risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or extortion. If observed, the DSP is responsible and mandated to report what is seen.
- Ensures a clean work space and sets up supplies/activities for the next day.
- Adheres to the monthly calendar for outings and trips. Any other activities outside of the calendar must be approved 48 hours before outing.
- Ensures that each individual has a choice on what activity they would like to do on any given day and makes sure there are different choices of hands-on-activities for individuals to participate in.
- Stores, heats up, and serves snacks/lunches at the appropriate time.
- May be asked to perform other duties as required by Executive Director, Coordinator, HR, Marketing, and/or Business Manager.
