About the role

The Admitting Representative is responsible for conducting interviews with patients representing the medical center's admission and financial policies; obtains demographic and third-party payer information necessary for admission and billing of patient accounts; compiles, verifies, analyzes, and distributes demographic, insurance, and financial information to be used by various hospital departments to assure proper compliance and prompt service to patients; assures verified data will provide accurate billing of charges and timely collection of accounts; supports hospital and departmental goals in a manner that will enhance the successful operation of the hospital and create a positive image to the public.

Responsibilities

  • Attendance/Punctuality/Professionalism:
    • Maintain punctual attendance for assigned days and times.
    • Work scheduled shifts and leave at the scheduled time.
    • Effectively meet deadlines and organizational needs.
    • Be flexible and capable of performing work in other departments as needed.
    • Engage professionally with patients, co-workers, other departments, and the public.
    • Complete assigned workload in an appropriate and timely manner.
    • Perform additional related job duties as required.
  • Communication - Verbal/Electronic/Written:
    • Obtain accurate and current patient demographic and financial information using proper grammar and verbal skills to establish a valid medical record and patient billing account.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.
  • Records and Documentation/Data Entry:
    • Complete and document the hospital's Condition of Admission form and advise patients of other related forms to ensure compliance with Joint Commission regulations.
    • Enter patient information accurately and efficiently when creating the electronic medical record and billing account.
    • Scan all admission-related documents.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.
  • Liaison/Reception/Customer Service/Patient Escort:
    • Act as a liaison between the hospital and patients, family, and visitors.
    • Direct patients and visitors, providing clear and concise directions and escorts when necessary.
    • Greet visitors in person upon arrival to address needs and purpose of hospital visit.
    • Facilitate and answer telephone calls to provide or solicit relevant information and direct inquiries appropriately.
    • Filter and assess needs of patients or representatives, providing information as appropriate and resolving requests and complaints while maintaining a calm, professional appearance.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.
  • Eligibility Verification Duties:
    • Inform patients of insurance co-payments, deductibles, or deposits.
    • Financially screen patients to ensure eligibility is identified, appropriate authorization is obtained, and all health plans/medical groups are notified in a timely manner.
    • Gather necessary billing information to correctly identify and select the appropriate payor to protect the medical center and patient from unnecessary financial loss.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.
  • Attendance of Meetings/Professional Development:
    • Attend weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly hospital staff meetings as assigned.
    • Attend scheduled in-service and mandatory training.
    • Address specialized issues that may affect the department.
    • Attend safety and skill-based training seminars.
    • Attend other job-related meetings and trainings.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.
  • Cash Handling/Register Duties:
    • Collect co-payments, deductibles, cash pay, or deposits.
    • Follow established cash handling procedures.
    • Accept fees (cash, check, or credit card), issue receipts, and provide documentation pertaining to fees paid.
    • Perform related cash handling duties using basic computer skills.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.
  • Hospitalization Intake Duties:
    • Coordinate with appropriate clinical staff and accurately obtain all appropriate patient data elements to facilitate bed requests.
    • Perform additional related job duties as needed.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of previous experience in a hospital or Patient Financial Services.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
  • Strong keyboarding skills; must type 30 words per minute.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

  • High school degree.

Pay

$22.60/hr - $25.68/hr. Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

Schedule

Full-time, night shift.
