Job Description Summary
Captures the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients, the registration of outpatients, and ensures that accurate patient information is collected. Ensures patient wait times are minimized, patient satisfaction is high, and overall quality is at or above 95%. Prepares materials related to these processes and collects all required deposits, copayments, co-insurances or deductibles. Greets all patients promptly, courteously, and directs them to the appropriate areas.
Job Specifications
- Education: High School diploma or GED. Associates degree in healthcare or business field preferred.
- Experience: One or more years of experience working in one of the following areas of an acute care setting; Admitting/Registration, Pre-admission Process, Insurance Verification. Clerical experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Computer experience: Required.
- Licenses and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire. Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) required within 30 days of hire.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient Registration Process:
- Timely, accurate, and consistent registration of all patients.
- Obtain timely and accurate information to establish a complete Medical Record and proper demographic and financial information.
- Measure error rates at 5% or less of total registrations performed.
- Process registration records and distribute information to hospital departments.
- Collect deposits, copayments, deductibles, or co-insurance as required.
- Maintain strong knowledge of insurance and billing requirements.
- Escorts or arranges escorts for patients to patient care units by wheelchair or walking.
- Demonstrate strong customer relations skills.
- Greet and provide information to patients and visitors.
- Answer telephones in a professional manner and relay information timely.
- Maintain effective working relationships with external organizations and agencies as required.
- Focus on assigned tasks and be a strong team player.
- Insurance Verification Process:
- Timely and accurate identification of the appropriate insurance for the patient.
- Obtain accurate and complete information from the hospital insurance verification system, insurance company representative, or carrier website regarding benefits, approvals, and other relevant information required for a complete admission.
- Communicate with the patient about their specific insurance carrier benefits and out-of-pocket expenses, and facilitate resolution of any coverage problems prior to admission or rendering of services.
- Identify and resolve problems with insurance companies prior to and/or following admission.
- Obtain authorization for all elective or scheduled patients and document accurate and timely information in the system.
- General Duties:
- Participates actively in the achievement of organizational and departmental goals.
- Attends and participates in in-services and staff meetings.
- Maintains standards of the organization and department.
- Absolves hospital policies on attire, work habits, and relationships.
- Observes confidentiality and decorum in conversation and behavior.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees.

Compensation
The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth’s compensation philosophy. Positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by those agreements.
