About the role

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting undergraduate freshmen, transfer and graduate students, representing the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University. Recruitment duties include portfolio reviews, developing and managing a recruitment territory, travel to high schools, college fairs, community colleges, colleges, portfolio review sessions and other professional and recruitment events to represent and give presentations about Tyler School of Art and Architecture programs and to provide guidance on AED programs to students, teachers, parents, and guidance counselors.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in planning and participating in on-campus events
  • Communicating with prospective students in person, by phone, through social media, in writing, and in group presentations
  • Leading special interest groups and high profile guests through Tyler and the enrollment process
  • Evaluating admission applications and responding to appeals from students, parents, and guidance counselors
  • Tracking and reviewing applications
  • Reviewing undergraduate portfolios
  • Enrolling an academically accomplished and diverse student body
  • Serving as the Tyler and Architecture & Environmental Design Admissions liaison to Temple University when appropriate

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one (1) year of directly related experience in an academic setting in higher education or related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Available to work nights and weekends

Preferred

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in art and design or related field

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to assess, critique, and evaluate portfolios of work in areas relative to Tyler School of Art and Architecture programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge and use of personal computers and database management
  • Able to read maps effectively
  • Able to use air or rail travel
