About the role

As a Counselor I, you will provide individual, group, and family counseling, conduct clinical assessments for new and ongoing patients, and demonstrate expertise in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices. You will participate in treatment teams, provide service coordination, and advocate for patients with the Utilization Review department to ensure comprehensive care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substance abuse counseling services in accordance with state laws, licensing boards, and professional ethical guidelines.
  • Maintain a full patient caseload.
  • Provide intervention, assessments, treatment planning, and individual/group counseling.
  • Initiate and provide family counseling services.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups as assigned.
  • Provide clinical services and assist with patients as assigned by the clinical director.
  • Participate in daily treatment team meetings and program staff meetings.
  • Ensure all documentation meets contract, licensure, accreditation, and standards for services in a timely manner following AAC’s documentation policy guidelines.
  • Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure the best care for patients.
  • Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
  • Understand and abide by State Department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC’s policies and procedures.
  • Identify, evaluate, and address situations that may be potentially harmful to patients; report concerns to the Clinical Manager and/or CEO.
  • Adhere to the company code of ethics and maintain professional boundaries with patients at all times.
  • Respect patient rights and understand their unique recovery needs.
  • Communicate professionally with staff, patients, and families using excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Participate in required clinical supervision, training, and staff meetings.
  • Work as part of a larger interdisciplinary team to ensure quality of care.
  • Demonstrate dependability and adaptability with patients and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 guidelines.
  • Maintain upkeep of personal professional licensing, certification, and CEUs as required by state boards without lapse, holds, suspensions, or investigation.
  • Assist in monitoring and managing the patient community as a therapeutic milieu.
  • Intervene in crisis situations to de-escalate and resolve crises.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology) required.
  • CADC-I certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a behavioral healthcare field strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge of utilizing electronic health record software and documentation.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria.
  • Ability to read, write, interpret written information, type documentation, present information to groups, and participate in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
  • Prolonged sitting at a desk and ability to lift 15 pounds at a time.
