Counselor I - Full Time

About the role

As a Counselor I, you will provide individual, group, and family counseling, conduct clinical assessments, and participate in treatment planning. You will demonstrate expertise in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices while advocating for patients and coordinating care across departments.

Responsibilities

• Provide substance abuse counseling services in accordance with state laws, licensing boards, and professional ethical guidelines.
• Maintain a full patient caseload, including intervention, assessments, treatment planning, and individual/group counseling.
• Initiate and provide family counseling services.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups as assigned.
• Participate in daily treatment team meetings and program staff meetings.
• Ensure all documentation meets contract, licensure, accreditation, and AAC standards in a timely manner.
• Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure the best patient care.
• Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
• Understand and abide by state department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC policies and procedures.
• Identify, evaluate, and address potentially harmful situations; report concerns to Clinical Manager and/or CEO.
• Adhere to company code of ethics and maintain professional boundaries with patients.
• Respect patient rights and address unique recovery needs.
• Communicate professionally with staff, patients, and families.
• Participate in required clinical supervision, training, and staff meetings.
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure quality of care.
• Demonstrate dependability and adaptability with patients and staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
• Maintain upkeep of personal professional licensing, certification, and CEUs as required by state boards.
• Assist in monitoring and managing the patient community as a therapeutic milieu.
• Intervene in crisis situations to de-escalate and resolve crises.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology).
• CADC-I certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a behavioral healthcare field strongly preferred.
• Experience with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational interviewing.
• Knowledge of ASAM criteria and electronic health record software.
• Ability to read, write, interpret written information, type documentation, and present information to groups.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google applications.
• Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
