Admissions Counselor
About the role
This entry-level position serves as the front-line customer service representative for Seton Hall University’s Office of Admissions. The Admissions Counselor handles all electronic, voice, and in-person communications related to the inquiry, application, and enrollment processes, and assesses and suggests improvements to the office’s customer service practices. The role involves meeting with students and families to discuss application, decision, and financial aid processes; making admission decisions when required; and conducting interviews and information sessions. The position requires strong customer service orientation, collaboration skills, and availability for weekend and evening events during recruitment cycles.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to inquiries via telephone, email, and social media in a timely manner.
- Provide prospective students with application status updates, general Seton Hall information, application process details, and program-specific information.
- Meet daily with prospective students, families, and visitors in the Admissions Office; answer questions, resolve issues, and direct visitors to appropriate departments.
- Conduct interviews with prospective freshmen, transfer students, and wait-listed students; assess interviews and provide feedback to support admission decisions.
- Advise students on the application process and evaluate applicant portfolios.
- Assist students and families with financial aid packages and identify additional financing options.
- Present daily information sessions to accepted students, prospective students, transfer students, guidance counselors, parents, and other visitors; provide campus tours as needed.
- Compile reports and data on visit programs and customer contacts; assist with customer service procedures and process improvements.
- Assess the customer service efforts of the Undergraduate Admissions Office and implement new procedures to enhance visitor support.
- Assist with application review and make admission decisions for incoming freshman and transfer applications when required.
- Support background admissions operations, including application processing, data entry, mailings, classroom visit arrangements, event planning, scheduling, programming, and logistics.
- Participate in Saturday information sessions, Open Houses, and other evening or weekend events as part of the recruitment cycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 1–2 years of experience in customer service and/or student service.
- Advanced degree may substitute for required work experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to analyze and interpret customer needs and offer appropriate solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to groups.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay
$32,800 – $45,100
Schedule
Full-time; may include weekend and evening events during recruitment cycles.
