Admission Counselor
Under the supervision of a Senior Admission Dean, the Admission Counselor performs duties related to the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of undergraduate students. The Office of Undergraduate Admission partners with the University Registrar, the Office of Student Financial Services, and the Virginia College Advising Corps as a critical member of the University’s Enrollment team. The team’s mission is to care for students from their first interaction with the University through Final Exercises and beyond, to compete for great students from all walks of life, and to collaborate joyfully with colleagues to help these students make the most of their gifts and time at UVA.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop presentations for high schools, college fairs, community-based organizations, and other recruitment events.
- Provide feedback and advice to prospective students, parents, and families about the application process.
- Serve as a liaison with stakeholders such as alumni, faculty, and other University community members involved in the admissions process.
- Plan and implement on- and off-grounds recruiting activities in coordination with team members, including hosting informational presentations about the University and undergraduate admission process.
- Field inquiries and provide resources to prospective students and families.
- Serve on the Admissions Committee as needed, evaluating applications and making recommendations for admission.
- Work closely with current UVA students, admission-affiliated student organizations, and other student organizations on Grounds.
- Be goal-oriented and willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least three years of experience in admissions or a related field, or a total of eight years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Student or intern experience will be considered.
- Driver’s license required.

- Experience working or serving in student services, admissions, or higher education.

- Follow set admissions policies and procedures while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
- Work effectively as part of a team to achieve shared goals, demonstrating thoughtful and appropriate oral and written communication.
- Advise prospective students, parents, and families about University admissions.
- Knowledge of basic computer applications and familiarity with the University’s educational mission, strategic aims, and programs.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The role occasionally requires traveling to attend meetings and programs, which may occur on nights or weekends.
This is an exempt-level, benefited position based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
