About the role

You will serve as a ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SPECIALIST (MEDICAL) in the Personnel Support Systems Branch (Code 1102.7), Administrative Officer (Codde 1102), Executive Support Staff (Code 1100), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate reporting of medical record information.
  • Manage workflow to prevent backlogs.
  • Prepare detailed and standard or nonstandard reports to clinic staff and shipyard management as needed.
  • Review the shipyard employee attrition list and update applicable data into Medical Examination Scheduling system (MES).

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • May require participation in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
    • Experience applying analytical and evaluative techniques to identify and communicate problems to supervisor regarding a variety of concepts and processes within the shipyard medical clinic.
    • Experience utilizing a variety of automation systems to include but not limited to medical records systems, spreadsheets to input, export and perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of such data.
    • Experience applying knowledge of Privacy Act of 1974, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), HIPPA; the medical policy regarding the sharing of patient information to ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding the release of such information.
    • Experience communicating effectively with different levels of people in the organizational structure, both verbally and in writing.
    • Experience performing basic administrative functions including drafting emails and providing clear and concise instructions on processes.
    • Experience operating computer systems and utilizing Microsoft Office and other software.

Additional qualification information

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

  • 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement.
  • A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
