ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT ASSISTANT (OA)
About the role
You will serve as an Administrative Support Assistant (OA) in the Test Engineering Division (246), Chief Engineer (240), Engineering and Planning Department 200 of Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Duties
- Receive visitors and calls from within the shipyard, other shipyards, and NAVSEA using courtesy and diplomacy to create the best impression possible of the Test Engineering Division.
- Assist the manager and staff on the practical and technical aspects of office administration.
- Develop and maintain a complete file on policy, administrative, and Department operational subject matter and recognize and recommend actions that are not consistent with the objectives of the functions of the Department.
- Conduct studies of existing directives and forms to detect and eliminate conflict, overlap, and duplication.
- Provide assistance and serve as a source of information to the Division head on a wide range of subjects.
- Compile, consolidate, and summarize budgetary data from source documents.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level (time-in-grade). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and chemicals). Must participate in medical surveillance programs.
- May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience performing timekeeper duties for various employees in SUPDESK or similar systems.
- Experience completing and routing travel requests, making travel arrangements, and processing travel claims using the Defense Travel System (DTS) or similar systems.
- Experience preparing and reviewing official and unofficial correspondence.
- Experience performing administrative duties while utilizing modern office equipment and software.
