About the role
The Oklahoma State Board of Dentistry is a state agency responsible for regulating and overseeing the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting, and the fabrication of dental appliances in Oklahoma. Its mission is to promote, protect, and provide public health and safety by ensuring that all licensees and permit holders are held to the standards as listed in the state statutes and rules.
This position provides administrative support to program areas and support functions or serves as an assistant to an administrator or official. Responsibilities include the administration of an agency program providing services to agency customers, maintaining records, preparing correspondence, presentations, reports, and similar tasks.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, directs/manages a component of an agency or institutional program or a major division, program, or function established to accomplish a basic goal or mission of the agency.
- Advises the general public on information regarding obtaining a license or permit, as well as information on filing a complaint and the process.
- Reviews applications and makes determinations if the criteria have been fulfilled.
- Participates in projects as team member or team leader.
- Develops and implements special procedures.
- Initiates correspondence requiring knowledge of agency or program procedures and policies.
- Interprets and advises internal and external customers on departmental or program rules, regulations, and laws.
- Administers, prepares, or oversees administrative operational functions, such as preparing invoices and payments of claims, requisitions, purchase orders, bookkeeping or accounting, and other fiscal duties.
- Coordinates activities with internal and external customers.
- Answers phones and performs other office tasks and duties.
- Utilizes advanced technological equipment and data processing equipment to provide requested information to internal and external customers; edits documents and reports; examines and verifies reports and other documents for completeness, appropriateness, adequacy, and conformity to established requirements, and resolves discrepancies or refers complex discrepancies to appropriate staff.
- Examines, licenses, and registers applicants for dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting, and related roles, ensuring they meet minimum professional and educational standards.
- Assists in rulemaking: creating, amending, and enforcing rules and regulations governing the conduct of dental professionals and auxiliary personnel.
- Monitors the safe and legal practice of licensed individuals providing dental services in the state.
- Handles complaints: accepts and investigates complaints from the public or other licensees against licensed or unlicensed individuals.
- Takes disciplinary measures for violations of state laws, rules, or professional standards.
- Protects the oral health, safety, and welfare of Oklahoma citizens by enforcing statutes, rules, and policies.
- Sets and maintains professional and educational standards for licensure and renewal.
- Ensures compliance with Oklahoma statutes and rules.
- Maintains records and verifies licensures, including National Practitioners Data Bank checks.
- Provides information to consumers about licensed professionals and license status.
- Responds to legislative changes (e.g., HB 3934) and updates statutes and rules accordingly.
Requirements
- Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and business English; business mathematics; modern office methods and procedures; and the maintenance of complex records.
- Knowledge of major policies and procedures governing assigned programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to perform confidential work and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interpret and complete routine matters according to agency policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to easily learn new computer programs, including social media.
Pay
Up to $50,000 depending on qualifications.
Schedule
Full time, regular position.
