About the Role
In this role, you will perform secretarial duties for a physician, requiring knowledge of medical terminology and hospital and clinic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Deliver quality patient care and follow through with physician orders
- Maintain excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Conduct oneself in a professional and positive manner, even during challenging situations
- Handle inter-office correspondence, including opening and distributing mail for the physician
- Maintain physician’s files and schedule
- Answer phone calls and enter all calls in Filemaker
- Schedule appointments, depositions, conferences, and patient surgeries, including pre- and post-operative appointments, and prepare related paperwork
- Enter physician’s billing information in Filemaker, if applicable
- Serve as liaison between the physician and hospital, as well as between the physician and patients
- Prepare letters of excuse from work or school
- Triage patient calls and facilitate patient interaction with other FOI departments
- Complete disability forms for patients
- Make travel arrangements for physicians
- Assist physician in clinic, if applicable
- Ensure compliance with all company plans, policies, and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic Institute
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma required
- Completed Medical Assisting School or received a Medical Assistant Certificate
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant
- Proficient in Excel and Word
- Willing to travel to all clinic locations in the Tampa Bay area
- Able to work extended hours to cover clinics as needed
- Suture/staple removal experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish bilingual skills
- Athena EMR experience
- Administrative Assistant experience
- Orthopaedic experience
Pay
$18.00 – $26.00 per hour. Compensation is based on experience, certification level, and relevant orthopedic or high-volume clinical background.
