About the Department

The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism has three major divisions: Arkansas State Parks, Arkansas Heritage, and Arkansas Tourism.

  • Arkansas State Parks manages 52 state parks and promotes Arkansas as a tourist destination for people around the country.
  • Arkansas Heritage preserves and promotes Arkansas’s natural and cultural history and heritage through four historic museums and four cultural preservation agencies.
  • Arkansas Tourism improves the state’s economy by generating travel and enhancing the image of the state.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the park's human resources functions, including timekeeping, benefits administration, and maintaining personnel files.
  • Perform new hire and termination procedures.
  • Verify payroll data weekly and complete assigned reports.
  • Assist with correspondence and answer the phone.
  • Manage daily office operations, ensuring efficient systems, procedures, and resources.
  • Monitor office supply levels, place orders, and manage inventory.
  • Ensure office equipment is functioning properly and arrange for repairs or maintenance as needed.
  • Coordinate complex scheduling for senior staff, including meetings, conferences, and travel plans.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for both physical and digital files, ensuring compliance with state laws and regulations.
  • Organize and manage filing systems for confidential and non-confidential information.
  • Evaluate existing administrative processes and recommend improvements to streamline operations.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to implement changes that enhance organizational performance.
  • Manage internal communications, including memos, notices, and announcements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, plus one (1) year of experience in administrative roles.
  • Knowledge of the state S4 (AASIS) system is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in document management, budget tracking, and scheduling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address administrative issues and improve workflows.
  • Proficiency in office software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with project management software or database systems.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.

Pay

Salary range: $43,088 - $63,770 (Pay Grade: SGS04)
