About the role

The Physical Health and Wellness teacher position delivers high-quality physical and health/wellness education to middle school students.

Our physical education classes are centered around wellness topics and activities designed to promote students’ physical and emotional health and well-being. Students explore various topics that promote a healthy sense of self and a positive approach to fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits. Middle school courses address the construction and implementation of goal setting as it relates to overall physical and mental well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality physical and health/wellness education to middle school students.
  • Center classes around wellness topics and activities designed to promote students' physical and emotional health and well-being.
  • Teach students about various topics that promote a healthy sense of self and a positive approach to fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits.
  • Address the construction and implementation of goal setting as it relates to overall physical and mental well-being.

Requirements

  • Possess a bachelor's degree in physical education and/or health education or related fields.
  • Have experience working with middle school students as a teacher and coach.
  • Understand the developmental needs of young adolescents and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, teamwork, and flexibility are emphasized.
  • Be able to operate effectively in diverse environments, interact successfully with people from widely varying backgrounds, and employ culturally responsive pedagogy to create an inclusive and equitable classroom community.
  • Create developmentally appropriate curricula.
  • Establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment for students.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents/guardians.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Advising students effectively and otherwise contributing to the life of the school outside the classroom.

Qualifications

  • Additional certifications, including but not limited to CPR/AED training, yoga, and outdoor education, are encouraged.
