Adjunct Life Science Instructor

About the role

We are seeking qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors. The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants interested in teaching part-time in the future. This posting is always open for applications, but does not guarantee an immediate opening. Department chairs review applicant materials in advance to determine eligibility for their pool of approved candidates. If a part-time instructional need arises, the department chair will first consider approved applicants.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses, which may include day, night, and online classes, as well as instruction at the main campus and extension centers.
• Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.
• Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning.
• Grade assignments meaningfully to promote continued student growth, return graded assignments in a timely manner, and assign final grades, meeting all institutional deadlines.
• Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled office hours or by appointment.
• Encourage student completion of opinion surveys for each class and review results to assist with increasing student success.
• Maintain professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Biology or a related subject area.
• 18 credits in Biology or a related subject area.
• Teaching experience at the college level preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
• Experience with instructional technology preferred.

• Detailed work, student contact, deadline-oriented tasks, problem-solving, handling multiple priorities, and emergency situations.
• Confidentiality, continual interruptions, working alone or with others, and faculty contact.
• Primarily sedentary work with occasional carrying, talking, hearing, and speaking in English.
• Close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, along with depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Normal office environment with minimal discomfort due to heat, dust, or noise.
• Ability to travel to all campus locations.

Schedule

Part-time, variable hours based on course assignments.
