About the Role
The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) at the University at Albany seeks adjunct lecturers for its new and growing Game Design & Development (GDD) program. This position offers an opportunity for a dynamic educator and practitioner to contribute to a rich interdisciplinary curriculum within the Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex (ETEC), a $180M state-of-the-art research, instructional, and entrepreneurial facility.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in game design and development, which may include but are not limited to:
- Game programming
- Game art
- Game technology
- The business of games
- Game studies
- UI/UX for games
- Game design
- Design and deliver effective instruction across in-person, online, and hybrid modalities.
- Integrate current professional practices, tools, or industry experience into academic coursework.
- Communicate effectively and foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success within a diverse academic community.
- Develop inclusive and equitable relationships within the diverse campus community.
- Support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to the role.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications:
- A MA, MS, or MFA in Game Design & Development, Information Science, English, Animation, Computer Science, Engineering, Networking, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Three or more years of academic teaching or professional training experience.
- An ongoing professional practice in game or play-related work, commercial or indie game development, or game-related asset production/technical art.
- Demonstrated readiness to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in Game Design and Development, Information Science, English, Animation, Computer Science, Engineering, Networking, or a closely related field.
- Experience teaching graduate courses in game design and development.
- Demonstrated experience teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
- One or more years of industry experience in game design and development.
