Adjunct Jazz Band Teacher

Responsibilities

• Availability (usually) between 12 and 1 pm, Monday through Friday
• Instruct beginning percussionist students, a beginner section and an intermediate section
• Aid with beginning and end-of-year organizational needs
• Prepare students for two concerts per year, winter and spring, including help with pre-concert warm-up, set-up, and chaperoning
• Track student progress and be able to write narrative comments on student performance and communicate with families as needed

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in music or a related field is required
• Demonstrated experience teaching beginning instrumentalists
• Experience working with adolescents, understanding their social-emotional and academic development
• Demonstrated passion for music and ability to leverage this passion into effective practices that encourage students to think creatively, engage with ideas deeply, and lead with intellectual curiosity
• Commitment to developing and practicing cultural competence in teaching and operating effectively in diverse environments
• Ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula
• Ability to establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment for students
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents/guardians
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families

Salary

$15,000 - $24,000
