About the role

Kilgore College is seeking a passionate and experienced Adjunct Instructor of Visual Arts to join its Visual and Performing Arts Department. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction to students from diverse backgrounds while fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned visual arts courses in accordance with Kilgore College curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction in Art Appreciation and studio-based art courses.
  • Collaborate with Visual Arts faculty and department leadership to support student success and program goals.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, projects, critiques, and assessments that meet course objectives.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and artwork.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and artistic growth.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety of studio facilities, equipment, and materials when teaching studio courses.
  • Stay current with developments in art education, contemporary artistic practices, and instructional technology.
  • Support college policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
  • When assigned, deliver dual credit instruction at partnering high schools while adhering to both Kilgore College and dual credit program requirements.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Art, Studio Art, Art History, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or a closely related field, OR
  • A Master's degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Art or Visual Arts.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of visual arts instruction, including studio art and/or art history/appreciation.
  • Teaching experience at the college level, secondary level, or in a comparable educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to teach Art Appreciation and foundational studio art courses.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire creativity and engagement among students with varying levels of artistic experience.
  • Commitment to student success, academic excellence, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Experience teaching dual credit courses or working with high school students.
  • Experience teaching in multiple instructional formats, including online and hybrid delivery.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and instructional technologies.
  • Professional artistic practice, exhibition record, or related creative work.

Benefits

  • Salary for adjunct faculty members is based upon level of education and range from $1,900 per 3-hour course for a master's degree to $2,100 per 3-hour course for a doctorate.

Schedule

  • Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
  • All position appointments are subject to approval by the college's Board of Trustees.
