About the role
Kilgore College is seeking a passionate and experienced Adjunct Instructor of Visual Arts to join its Visual and Performing Arts Department. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction to students from diverse backgrounds while fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned visual arts courses in accordance with Kilgore College curriculum and learning outcomes.
- Develop and deliver engaging instruction in Art Appreciation and studio-based art courses.
- Collaborate with Visual Arts faculty and department leadership to support student success and program goals.
- Develop and implement lesson plans, projects, critiques, and assessments that meet course objectives.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and artwork.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and artistic growth.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety of studio facilities, equipment, and materials when teaching studio courses.
- Stay current with developments in art education, contemporary artistic practices, and instructional technology.
- Support college policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
- When assigned, deliver dual credit instruction at partnering high schools while adhering to both Kilgore College and dual credit program requirements.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Art, Studio Art, Art History, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or a closely related field, OR
- A Master's degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Art or Visual Arts.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of visual arts instruction, including studio art and/or art history/appreciation.
- Teaching experience at the college level, secondary level, or in a comparable educational setting preferred.
- Ability to teach Art Appreciation and foundational studio art courses.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire creativity and engagement among students with varying levels of artistic experience.
- Commitment to student success, academic excellence, and inclusive teaching practices.
- Experience teaching dual credit courses or working with high school students.
- Experience teaching in multiple instructional formats, including online and hybrid delivery.
- Proficiency with learning management systems and instructional technologies.
- Professional artistic practice, exhibition record, or related creative work.
Benefits
- Salary for adjunct faculty members is based upon level of education and range from $1,900 per 3-hour course for a master's degree to $2,100 per 3-hour course for a doctorate.

Schedule
- Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
- All position appointments are subject to approval by the college's Board of Trustees.
