Department Summary
The division of Instrumental Studies offers Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts performance degrees with specializations in violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, harp, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, and multiple woodwinds. Students and alumni have won major instrumental competitions and hold professional positions worldwide. UNT has a highly diverse campus and welcomes candidates with experience at HSI/MSIs or who speak languages such as Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese, Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or Yoruba.
About the Role
The Department of Instrumental Studies seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool for the Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 semesters. Openings to teach develop periodically based on department needs. The anticipated need is for adjunct instructors to teach applied performance lessons and/or ensemble performance in strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, early music, and instrument repair. All instruction will take place on the UNT Denton campus.
Responsibilities
- Teach applied performance lessons in assigned instrumental areas.
- Direct or assist with ensemble performance activities.
- Instruct courses in early music or instrument repair as needed.
Qualifications
- Terminal degree in music or a closely related field. Professional experience may substitute for an earned degree.
- Prior college-level teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching instrumental performance aligned with the standards of the UNT Instrumental Studies program.
Physical Requirements
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
