About the Role

Provide varied and relevant instruction designed to meet the education and training needs of Fire Rescue employees in accordance with the course curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and cooperate with other instructors and follow established goals and objectives for the course being facilitated.
  • Observe students' work/performance to determine progress and/or provide feedback to the student and Training Division for improvement.
  • Maintain the professional standards of Pasco County and Pasco County Fire Rescue.
  • Work effectively to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development.
  • Analyze situations quickly and accurately, and determine the proper course of action.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other officers, subordinates, allied agencies, civic groups, and the public.
  • Develop effective educational material for oral and/or graphic presentation.
  • Maintain appropriate records and prepare reports.
  • Present educational training programs in an effective manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require climbing ladders, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and running.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a paramedic; three (3) years must be with Pasco County Fire Rescue for EMS-related courses. Consideration of credentials and experience outside of Pasco County Fire Rescue may be made on a case-by-case basis, as approved by the Fire Chief.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must possess a Certificate of Compliance from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
  • Must possess a State of Florida EMT or Paramedic Certification, as required for the course.
  • Must possess a minimum of Florida Fire Instructor I Certification for fire-related classes.
  • State of Florida Fire Instructor III Certification is required for Adjunct Instructor III position.
  • Other certifications as appropriate for courses taught, including but not limited to:
    • ACLS Instructor
    • BLS Instructor
    • Blue Card Instructor
    • EPC Instructor
    • Live Fire Training Instructor (LFTI)
    • National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMS) Level I Instructor
    • State of Florida Incident Safety Officer
    • PHTLS Instructor
  • All employees must sign an Adjunct Instructor contract prior to being utilized in the role.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services methods, techniques, apparatus, and equipment, as appropriate for assignment.
  • Knowledge of the department's rules and regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and teach new methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of in-service and continuing education, training techniques, teaching methods, tools, and aids used in instruction.
  • Ability to develop effective education and training techniques, teaching methods, tools, and aids used in instruction.
