Adjunct Instructor
About the Role
Virginia Tech’s Department of Mathematics invites applications for a pool of qualified adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate mathematics courses on a part-time, semester-by-semester basis. Appointments are made as departmental instructional needs arise and are contingent upon enrollment, funding, and curriculum requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate mathematics courses, including calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, or differential equations.
Requirements
- A master’s degree in mathematics or a related discipline by date of hire, with a minimum of 18 semester hours of graduate courses in mathematics.
- Experience teaching college-level mathematics courses.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching college-level courses as the primary instructor.
- Documented outstanding effectiveness teaching in a curriculum designed to serve a large, diverse group of university students in engineering and the sciences.
- Willingness and ability to teach calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, or differential equations.
Pay
- $8,000 for each 3-credit course.
- $10,000 for each 4-credit course.
Overtime-eligible (non-exempt). Average of 29 hours per week.
