Adjunct Instructor, Geomatics and Surveying Technologies

About the Role

Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time faculty to teach Geomatics and Surveying Technology classes. Openings for these positions may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
• Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
• Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
• Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
• Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
• Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
• Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
• Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
• Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
• Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
• Remains up-to-date on technology and methods of teaching with technology
• Attends professional development opportunities when possible

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Surveying, Geomatics or a related discipline
• Two years of relevant experience, or two years of additional education studying geomatics, surveying, or other pertinent field
• Computer skills using basic functions of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

• Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
• Be innovative, creative, motivated
• Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
• Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
• Good organizational skills
• Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers, and web-based resources such as BlackBoard
• Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential

Preferences

• Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics or a related field
• Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor or Professional Engineer
