Adjunct Instructor - Commercial Truck Driving (Evening Position)

General Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Chattanooga is accepting applications for the part-time position of Truck Driving Adjunct Instructor to be located at the Soddy Daisy site in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. This scheduled class time will be five nights a week (3:15 p.m. – 10:45 p.m.) at the approved campus work site for instruction, office hours, and community and college service. Instructors are responsible for teaching students in our training programs in classroom, hands-on lab settings, and clinical, ensuring that they gain the knowledge and skills that are required for entry-level employment in their chosen field. Instructors are also responsible for sound educational practices and the academic development of each student. Instructors will also manage their classroom environment and promote a positive and engaging learning experience, provide support, tutoring and other assistance as needed. Instructors are to “model" the professional behaviors, language, and activities expected of our students.

• Ensures that each student has been presented with the necessary material to successfully meet the learning objectives of each course within a student's program of study.
• Ensures that instructional materials and equipment are ready for student use, sufficient in quantity, properly maintained, and in working order before class time.

• Maintains a solid understanding of College goals and priorities as they relate to the student experience.
• Participates in ongoing faculty assessment and professional development activities to ensure an active and engaged classroom experience for all students.
• Maintains required certification and license.
• Maintains required academic and administrative deadlines.
• Maintains campus compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory bodies' guidelines, along with internal policies of the college.
• Strengthen relationships between the college and the community through program advisory committees and/or community outreach activities.

• Fiscal Stewardship
• Manages financial resources in accordance with College policies, values, and within the fiscal realities of the College.

Qualifications

• CDL Certificate from an accredited college.
• Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) required.
• Current CDL Class A license.
• Three years of truck driving experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
• DOT Certification as a Third Party Tester.

• Ability to work with people of various viewpoints, cultural backgrounds, and skill levels.
• Able to lift up to 25 pounds of material, bend body in various positions to climb into trucks and move equipment, and use arms and legs to demonstrate how to drive a truck, shift gears, brake, etc.
