Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.

Qualifications

  • Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.
  • Required Minimum Education:
    • Technical school diploma in Truck Driving OR
    • High School diploma and successful completion of Truck Driver Train-the-Trainer course offered through WTCS (or equivalent school with proof of transcript). This course must be completed by the end of the first year of teaching.
  • Must possess and maintain a good driving record with DOT/DMV & CSA (Compliance Safety & Accountability).
  • Must have a minimum of seven years (14,000 hours) experience as a Truck driver.
  • At least two years of driving experience must have occurred within the last five years.
  • Two years of teaching Truck driving course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.

Industry or vendor certification

  • Must complete the most up to date defensive driving course series online via SumTotal (internal training system) with a score of at least 80% within the first 90 days of employment.

Current driving record

  • Must have a current valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Must have a good driving record with DOT/DMV & CSA (Compliance Safety & Accountability) Score.

Supplemental Information

  • Start Date: January 2026.
  • Hrs/Location: In-person, part-time role. Number of hours worked per week will vary based on course load, enrollment and departmental need.
  • Salary: Starting hourly wage of $70 per hour.
  • Interviews: Selected qualified candidates will be invited to in-person interview for this position.

  • Retirement Benefits: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility.
  • Flexible Spending Plans: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.
  • Sick Leave Benefits: Sick leave is earned based on one times the weekly workload per semester. The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours.
  • Vacation Benefits: Vacation is earned based on the length of service and hours worked each pay period. (Not available for Instructors)
  • Paid Holidays: MATC offers paid/flex holidays based on position.
