About the role

Ivy Tech Community College seeks qualified part-time adjunct faculty to teach Biology courses for students at the Evansville, IN campus. Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned Biology, life science, laboratory, and/or lecture courses in accordance with course outcomes and college expectations.
  • Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes.
  • Provide students with a syllabus appropriate to the course(s) being taught and follow syllabus content and requirements.
  • Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook.
  • Submit requested information within established timelines.
  • Students Support students pursuing academic, transfer, healthcare, science, and career pathways by helping them build a strong foundation in biology and scientific thinking.
  • Be available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions and provide assistance.
  • Address student concerns and, if necessary, consult with the program chair to resolve issues.
  • Instruct all scheduled classes of contracted course(s), including assigned lecture and/or laboratory sections.
  • Use instructional technology such as Blackboard, PowerPoint, recorded lecture materials, and other learning tools as appropriate.
  • Apply professional knowledge from biological science, laboratory, research, healthcare, environmental science, or related fields to help students connect course content to real-world applications.
  • In the event of an emergency absence, notify the program/department chair.
  • Congruently promote the same as an integral part of one's work.

Qualifications

  • Possesses a master’s degree, or higher, in a biological science; or possesses a master’s degree, or higher, in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in biology-related courses.
  • Graduate coursework may include biology-related areas such as biological sciences, life sciences, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, genetics, neuroscience, biomedical science, environmental science, ecology, or other related graduate science coursework, as determined through transcript review.
  • Previous teaching, training, tutoring, laboratory instruction, clinical education, professional presentation, or post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Professional experience in a biology-related field such as laboratory science, research, biomedical science, microbiology, environmental science, healthcare, biotechnology, quality control, or related science-based work.
  • Experience supporting students, adult learners, community college students, or individuals preparing for healthcare, transfer, or science-related career pathways.
  • Doctorate degree.

Pay

Hiring Range $45.00 per contact hour, approximately $2,160 per 8-week course.

Schedule

  • Fall 1st Term (8 Weeks) – Introductory Biology, Tuesday & Thursday 10-11:50 am for lab, lecture is recorded videos, 3 credit/4 contact
  • Fall 2nd Term (8 Weeks) – Introductory Biology, Tuesday & Thursday, 8:30-10:20 am lecture, 10:30 am-12:20 pm lab, 3 credit/4 contact
  • Fall Semester (16 Weeks) – Molecular and Cellular Processes, Monday & Wednesday, 8:30-10:20 am lecture, 10:30-11:50 am lab, 5 credit/7 contact
