Adjunct, Illustration

About the role

Welcome to the SLCC Community!! The adjunct Illustration faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation for the Department of Visual Art & Design.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Undergo college mandatory training.
• Take part in departmental-level training.
• Follow all SLCC policies and procedures.
• Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
• Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
• Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
• Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
• Credits a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
• Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
• Aids in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
• Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
• Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
• Completes all required employee trainings.
• Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
• Provides ADA accommodations as requested.

Knowledge & Skills & Abilities

• Ability to teach post-secondary illustration students.
• Demonstrated abilities in illustration proficiency.
• Good reading and writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Dependable and punctual.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
• Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in the illustration field.
  • Some post-secondary (college) education experience.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years full-time experience in the illustration industry.

Pay

This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.
