Adjunct German Professor
Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is seeking a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach Elementary and Intermediate German language courses in person and live online (Zoom) during summer, spring, or fall semesters. This role may involve teaching 5-10 credit hours or serving as a substitute professor.

The Foreign Language Department, part of the Communications Division, is located in Overland Park, KS—a vibrant city within the greater Kansas City Metro area known for its cultural attractions, including museums, restaurants, and arts scenes. JCCC fosters a rich cultural community with an award-winning contemporary art museum and a center for the performing arts on campus.
Responsibilities
- Teach Elementary and Intermediate German courses in day or evening sessions, in person or live online (Zoom).
- Serve as a substitute professor as needed.
- Collaborate with full-time and adjunct faculty in the Foreign Language Department.
- Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for German language students.
- Participate in departmental planning, administration, and on-campus events promoting languages.
- Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- M.A. degree in German or an MA in a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in German (as required by JCCC HLC criteria).
- Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate German courses.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in using technology in the classroom, including teaching online via Zoom or similar platforms.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience or 4 years of high school teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of the climate of post-secondary institutions.
- Knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
- ACTFL (OPI) documentation of advanced mid or higher proficiency in German.
- Ability to teach Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, or French with HLC credentials.
- PhD in German.
Pay
$1,262–$1,404 per credit hour, determined by relevant years of work experience and in accordance with the adjunct pay table.
