Adjunct, Foundational Math Instructor

Job Summary

Welcome to the SLCC Community! The Foundational Math adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation using sound developmental mathematics pedagogies. This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available. This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit. Essential Duties

• Maintains a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
• Communicates collectively and/or individually with students regarding course management
• Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 business days)
• Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
• Submits graded final exams to the Math Department at the end of the semester
• Prepares and submits incident reports as needed to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
• Ensures student learning through maintaining SLCC's Math Department standards of teaching
• Communicates effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities
• Maintains professional boundaries with all SLCC students

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or Math Education is required if not master's has been awarded
• Successful completion of mathematics coursework through calculus series required
• Three years teaching experience in junior high school or high school (grades 7-12) or college

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in mathematics or math education
• Experience teaching adults in a higher education environment
• Experience teaching in a competency-based model
