About the role
Welcome to the SLCC Community! The Foundational Math adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation using sound developmental mathematics pedagogies.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
- Communicates collectively and/or individually with students regarding course management
- Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 business days)
- Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
- Submits graded final exams to the Math Department at the end of the semester
- Ensures student learning through maintaining SLCC's Math Department standards of teaching
- Communicates with students and the Math Department with a course syllabus
- Maintains professional boundaries with all SLCC students
- Communicates with students and the Math Department with ADA accommodations as requested
- Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
- Prepares and submits incident reports as needed to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or Math Education is required if not master's has been awarded
- Successful completion of mathematics coursework through calculus series required
- Three years teaching experience in junior high school or high school (grades 7-12) or college
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities
- Experience teaching adults in a higher education environment
- Experience teaching in a competency-based model
Skills & Abilities
- Meets the SLCC Math Department's protocols and standards in teaching
- Provides students and the Math Department with a course syllabus
- Maintains a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
- Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
- Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
- Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
- Informs students of progress by keeping up-to-date grades in the college LMS
- Communicates collectively and/or individually with students regarding course management
- Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 business days)
- Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
- Submits graded final exams to the Math Department at the end of the semester
- Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
- Completes all required employee training
- Continues to improve teaching and student learning through departmental professional development

Pay
This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.
