We seek applicants for a part-time adjunct instructor to teach Veterinary Assistant courses within the College’s Career and Technical Education division, with a particular need for an instructor to teach Tuesday/Thursday evening classes during the Fall 2026 semester. This course introduces students to the growing field of veterinary medicine. Students will learn about the care of animals as well as how to recognize signs of illness and disease. The program also covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as how to assist the veterinarian during examinations. Additional teaching opportunities may be available during future semesters, as well as at our Lincoln and/or Pontiac, IL locations.

General Expectations

  • Evaluate student learning outcomes within established protocols
  • Prepare syllabi for courses taught consistent with established approvals
  • Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook
  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomes on the master syllabus
  • Demonstrate competence and remain current in the discipline
  • Use major IT systems necessary for the performance of basic job duties, including email, grade, and required attendance submissions, and learning management systems
  • Cooperate with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff in advocating for student persistence and completion
  • Maintain reasonable accessibility to students
  • Cooperate with College-wide and division instructional goals

Anticipated Class Schedule

The anticipated class schedule will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00 p.m.- 8:15 p.m.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinarian, licensed veterinary technician or veterinary assistant
  • Minimum 3 years of successful professional experience in a veterinary office
  • Experience teaching/training within a veterinary office

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree
  • Current certification through National Association of Veterinary Technician of America
  • Successful teaching experience

Position Details

These positions are based in Central Illinois and ability to be present on-campus/in-person is required.

Compensation

Adjunct faculty shall be compensated per Equated Contact Hour (ECH) of instruction. As of the time of posting, the compensation rate per ECH for new Adjunct Faculty is $1,011.
