About the Role

As an Adjunct Faculty member at American College of Education, you will maintain a strong academic presence and growth in professional development for teaching, scholarly or creative works, and service to the profession and the college. You will report directly to the department chair, who provides guidance on academic and teaching responsibilities, service to students and the college, and professional development.

Responsibilities

Academic and Teaching Responsibilities

• Relate directly to students, handling instructional responsibilities to support, strengthen, and enhance the learning experience.
• Interact directly with students in an appropriate, professional manner.
• Facilitate a safe and productive learning environment for students.
• Respond in a timely manner to student requests for information, clarification of content, posts, and personal queries, and contact inactive students as needed.
• Oversee the quality of the course by reviewing functionality and content, ensuring high-quality delivery.
• Expand the student experience by incorporating unique personal experience, insights, or professional knowledge into course content.
• Monitor and provide appropriate student feedback on assignments within college policies.
• Synthesize and report student performance data in a timely manner.

Service to Students, Department, College, and Community

• Support the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the program and institution.
• Aid student learning of ethical conduct, particularly related to plagiarism and copyright infringement; follow appropriate procedures in reporting infractions.
• Direct students to supplemental resources to enhance their individual skills and abilities.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and leadership, including attending required meetings.
• Promote the vision, mission, and culture of the college within and beyond the institution.
• Provide appropriate leadership within your sphere of influence.

Professional Development

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge of curricula and industry by participating in educational workshops/seminars, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Stay informed about emerging issues and trends related to the department.
• Support and promote research to ensure the quality of program and course offerings.

Requirements

• Earned a terminal degree and experience in Leadership, Higher Education, Research, or Community College.
• 1+ year of experience in teaching and leadership in a formal educational setting using both traditional and non-traditional teaching formats; higher education experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully developing online/virtual professional relationships.
• Evidence of professional research and/or creative endeavors and expertise in the field.
• Demonstrates self-reliance by meeting or exceeding workflow needs.
• Positive attitude, motivation, concern for students, teamwork, and excellent time management skills.
• Follows established processes as outlined by the organization and leadership.
• Capable of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
• Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with other department personnel.
• Must support and embrace the College's Impact mission to improve the people and communities served through civic engagement initiatives.
• Exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills.
• Self-motivated, creative, and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems.
• Collaborative in driving decisions and a team player.

Pay

Adjuncts are paid per student per course: $50 per student at the bachelor and master levels, and $126 per student at the doctorate level. Additional opportunities include serving on paid committees and receiving payment for writing and developing courses.
