Adjunct Faculty – Optometry - Student Success Navigator

About the role

The School of Optometry seeks a qualified individual to serve as an adjunct faculty/student success navigator to support student learning experiences and success in the Doctor of Optometry Program. This remote role centers on academic mentoring, early identification of student challenges, and facilitation of student support strategies to promote progression and professional development for graduate-level Optometry students.

Responsibilities

• Conduct prompt analysis and outreach to students to provide individualized academic coaching, mentoring, interventions, and success planning
• Monitor academic performance and implement early intervention strategies for at-risk learners
• Conduct meetings with at-risk learners remotely and/or in person as needed
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student meetings, progress, and outcomes
• Collaborate with course directors and faculty to identify and support student learning needs
• Assist in interventions, remediation plan development, implementation, and follow-up
• Coordinate with University student support services, including ADA compliance, counseling, and academic resource offices
• Use the University’s learning management system (Blackboard) and approved communication tools, such as the Student Success Hub, to support student engagement
• Engage in weekly meetings with the School’s administrative team in charge of student success
• Submit end-of-semester reports on trends, student needs, and outcomes to the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Programs
• Provide assessment information to the program, including ongoing development of student support tools and processes
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree with at least one year of clinical experience
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively and interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff)
• Proficiency with the School’s learning management system, assessment platforms, and technologies for videoconferencing, documentation, and communication

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in academic coaching, advising, and remediation
• Experience in teaching, mentoring, or advising students
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel

Pay

Hiring range: $50/hour. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data, and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.
