Statement of Primary Purpose

Provide instructional services to Opticianry students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.

Classification

Curriculum faculty, full-time, exempt
This position is required to work the 9-month academic schedule.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses, labs, and clinics, both in-person and online, in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
  • Oversee the operation of the Optical Dispensary.
  • Maintain accurate records for each course taught, including attendance and student grades.
  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
  • Participate in curriculum advisory committee meetings, if applicable.
  • Cooperate in scheduled student evaluations of the instructor and the course.
  • Submit all college reports in an accurate, timely fashion.
  • Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
  • Provide clinical education duties as assigned.
  • Assign and grade clinical education assignments and paperwork.
  • Submit all college reports in an accurate, timely fashion.
  • Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and others.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the program and the college's mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Associate’s Degree in Opticianry, education, or related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree.

Skills

  • Knowledge and Skills Preferred: One year experience as an instructor at an opticianry program.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to use and demonstrate all instructional and lab equipment.

Licensing Requirement

  • Credentialed in equivalent training and preparation. (Optician, Optometrist, Ophthalmologist)
  • Valid NC Driver’s License.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Routine travel in the college service area and to clinical sites beyond the service area.

Equipment Operation

  • Able to demonstrate and operate all equipment required to perform the duties of an Optician.
