Adjunct Faculty - Math Instructor

About the Role

Black Hawk College seeks adjunct/part-time Instructors for the mathematics department for both developmental and transfer-level courses. Positions are actively recruiting for the Fall 2025 semester.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver appropriate lessons, assignments, or activities to enhance students’ educational experience.
• Evaluate students’ performance and maintain classroom records.
• Maintain classroom equipment and instructional materials.

Requirements

Developmental Mathematics

• M.A. or M.S. in Mathematics or Mathematics Education (secondary level or higher), or a Master’s in Education with at least twelve hours of graduate-level mathematics or statistics.
• Experience working with students in developmental mathematics.
• Awareness of learning issues associated with special needs students.
• Completion of a teacher education program is preferred.
• Demonstrated oral English proficiency for classroom instruction.

Transfer-Level Mathematics

• A master’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics is required (exceptions noted below).
• At least 18 graduate semester hours in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and/or statistics (exceptions noted below).
• To teach Calculus I or any course with Calculus I or II as a prerequisite: at least 18 graduate semester hours in pure mathematics, including real analysis or equivalent.
• To teach statistics for general education, math for general education, or math for elementary education: a master’s degree in math education is acceptable.
• Successful teaching experience at the secondary or college level is preferred.
• Demonstrated oral English proficiency for classroom instruction.

Pay

Pay is commensurate with education and experience. Minimum starting pay for adjunct faculty (as of Fall 2024):

• Less than a Master's Degree: $693.36 per equated hour
• Master's Degree: $808.92 per equated hour
• Doctorate: $866.70 per equated hour
