Job Description

Prepare and deliver Interdisciplinary Humanities coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all.

Maintains regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.

Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.

Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.

Technology

Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.

Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).

Required Education

  • Master’s degree in Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Liberal Studies;
  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Liberal Studies;
  • Master’s degree with at least 6 graduate hours in Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Liberal Studies and 12 additional humanities relevant graduate hours in one or more of the following fields:
    • Humanities, Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies,
    • Classics,
    • Art,
    • Theatre,
    • Dance,
    • Film,
    • Music,
    • Creative Writing,
    • Art History,
    • English Literature,
    • Foreign Languages and Literature,
    • Philosophy,
    • Religion or Religious Studies,
    • Area Studies (American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, African Studies, etc.),
    • Women’s Studies,
    • Gender Studies,
    • Ethnic Studies,
    • Intercultural Communication,
    • History;
  • Master’s degree with at least 18 humanities relevant graduate credit hours in any combination of at least three of the following fields and evidence of interdisciplinary work or studies in the humanities:
    • Humanities,
    • Liberal Arts,
    • Liberal Studies,
    • Classics,
    • Art,
    • Theatre,
    • Dance,
    • Film,
    • Music,
    • Creative Writing,
    • Art History,
    • English Literature,
    • Foreign Languages and Literature,
    • Philosophy,
    • Religion or Religious Studies,
    • Area Studies (American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, African Studies, etc.),
    • Women’s Studies,
    • Gender Studies,
    • Ethnic Studies,
    • Intercultural Communication,
    • History.

Qualities of a Successful Candidate

  • Experience working with high school populations.
