About the role

Virginia Peninsula Community College seeks adjunct faculty to teach Humanities classes such as Early Humanities and Modern Humanities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver instruction for day, evening, and weekend classes.
  • Responsible for student assessment and grading.
  • Maintain adequate on-campus presence.
  • Provide timely communication with students, staff, and administrators of the College.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Humanities or a directly related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • At least 18 graduate credit hours in Humanities.
  • A passion for the discipline and a commitment to a student-centered philosophy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
  • A willingness to serve the needs of diverse groups of learners.
  • The ability to modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • The ability to plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • The ability to evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.
  • The ability to maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters on time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience and/or strong interest in teaching and inspiring adult learners.

Qualifications

  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching online, hybrid, and traditional face-to-face classroom modalities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Demonstrated ability to measure, assess, and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
  • Demonstrated creation and teaching experience with Open Educational Resources (OER) courses.

    Pay

    Pay range is $808-$1,351 per credit hour.

    Schedule

    Teaching schedule varies dependent upon student enrollment and staffing needs.
