Adjunct Faculty – Graphic and Media Design

About the role

Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution serving the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York. Adjunct faculty teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours in the summer, with assignments at the Hampton or Historic Triangle campus, other off-site centers, and online (asynchronous/synchronous) day, evening, and weekend classes. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs; there is no guarantee of continued employment.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver instruction for day, evening, or weekend classes.
• Assess and grade student work.
• Maintain adequate on-campus presence.
• Provide timely communication with students, staff, and administrators.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate semester credits in Graphic and Media Design or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated passion for Graphic and Media Design and commitment to teaching diverse student populations.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in the Adobe suite of design and editing programs.
• Ability to teach Type Design, Layout Design, and Web Design.
• Willingness to adopt and modify instructional plans to meet diverse student needs.
• Ability to plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and submit final grade rosters by established deadlines.
• Ability to work at all campus locations.

Qualifications

• Community college teaching experience.
• Experience teaching online, hybrid, and traditional face-to-face modalities.
• Proficiency and experience using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
• Ability to measure, assess, and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
