Adjunct Faculty - English (GRADE)
About the role
The Humanities Department at Finger Lakes Community College seeks innovative and adaptable educators committed to student engagement, excellence in teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of the current subject area.
- Implements course outcomes based on the master syllabus.
- Prepares and distributes an updated course outline specific to the sections taught.
- Prepares and creates lesson plans, instructional materials, and activities for students.
- Teaches courses and evaluates student performance.
- Maintains accurate student records.
- SUBMIT pertinent data to the department and/or the College.
- Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in English.
- Master's degree in English or Education.
- Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. or terminal degree in English - composition, creative writing, digital humanities, history of language, journalism, linguistics, literature, literature in translation, playwriting.
- Two or more years of experience teaching the subject at the college level.
- Demonstrated ability to engage students through inclusive, student-centered pedagogy.
- Evidence of discipline-specific scholarship, professional development, or applied experience.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in English. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in English or Education, a Ph.D. or terminal degree in English - composition, creative writing, digital humanities, history of language, journalism, linguistics, literature, literature in translation, playwriting, two or more years of experience teaching the subject at the college level, demonstrated ability to engage students through inclusive, student-centered pedagogy, and evidence of discipline-specific scholarship, professional development, or applied experience.

Pay
Adjunct rate of pay for the 2026-2027 Academic Year is $1,087 per contact hour.
