Adjunct Faculty, English as a Second Language

This is a part-time (adjunct) faculty position. Candidates will be interviewed and hired on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.

About the Role

Teaches a full range of English as a Second Language (ESL) courses including speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar to non-native speakers.

  • Prepares and delivers learning activities in order to achieve course outcomes
  • Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts
  • Evaluates and grades students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations
  • Maintains and submits student attendance records, grades, and other required documentation by specified deadlines
  • Available to students for coaching
  • Attends periodic meetings with supervisors, division, or College relative to teaching duties and training and development

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in English as a Second Language (ESL); or master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate-level course hours in English as a Second Language Education, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English, or other languages
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent)
  • Advanced communication (verbal, written, and interpersonal) and organizational skills
  • Ability to appropriately respond to the needs of the community

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in English as a Second Language
  • Teaching experience

Pay

$951 per Equated Semester Unit (ESU)

Schedule

To be determined based on business unit needs. Classes may be offered during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Candidates must indicate availability when applying.

If hired, adjunct faculty must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of the work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands.
