Position Summary

Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of course outcomes, proactively supporting all facets of the learning environment. Provide education through learning‑centered instruction that enables graduates to meet evolving marketplace needs, while encouraging a culture of mutual responsibility, lifelong learning, diversity, ethics, and personal and professional development. Uphold South University’s philosophy of quality service, employee development, and an innovative, positive environment, and participate in activities that promote the stature of academic programs.

Essential Functions

• Manage the educational process to ensure every student experiences a positive learning, teaching, and social environment.
• Perform faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty job description and the Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
• Provide course instruction that aligns with South University’s curriculum model and system delivery style.
• Design and deliver instruction through instructional plans, activities that support lesson objectives, and, for online courses, delivery within the approved course shell.
• Effectively utilize technology in the classroom to support student learning.
• Enable achievement of predefined student outcomes and evaluation by fostering proficiency and establishing performance criteria.
• Deliver learning‑centered instruction by creating an educational environment conducive to learning, student involvement, and thorough class preparation.
• Promote student success through flexible teaching styles, a passion for teaching, and active student engagement.
• Maintain accurate records, submit grades and reports on time, and enforce academic and attendance policies consistent with the division.
• Integrate professional, life, and industry experience into learning by continuing skill development and introducing industry perspectives.
• Participate in faculty development to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities in learner‑centered instruction.
• Communicate consistently and effectively with supervisors, faculty, and other South University administrators.
• Contribute to a learning culture by participating in curriculum and system task forces, supporting campus events such as orientation and graduation, and attending workshops and meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Faculty teaching general education courses at the undergraduate level: doctoral or master’s degree in English/Composition, or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
• Experience in instruction or a formalized education process, preferably at a post‑secondary or college institution.
• Membership in a professional association related to the area of instruction (preferred).
• Active, valid, and unencumbered state licensure or certification as applicable to the discipline.
