About the College and Department

The College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS) delivers a time-honored liberal arts education paired with Drexel’s renowned focus on experiential learning. Research and scholarship explore contemporary issues with an eye toward improving the common good. With disciplines spanning the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the College emphasizes hands-on education through undergraduate programs, Co-op experiences, and Community-Based Learning courses.

The Department of Communication prepares students for careers in public relations, journalism, media, and other communication-driven fields. Offering concentrations in Public Relations, Journalism, and Media and Communication, the department integrates up to 18 months of real-world co-op experience. Graduate programs include a Master of Science in Strategic and Digital Communication, a Master of Science in Communication, Culture and Media, and a Doctorate in Communication, Culture and Media.

About the Role

The Adjunct will leverage academic and professional expertise to foster student learning and discussions, encourage active and experiential learning, maintain course-related records, and evaluate student work. Responsibilities include teaching days, evenings, or online, either in-person, remotely, or a hybrid format.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the required number of credit hours per term based on the contract.
  • Provide a full syllabus and determine relevant teaching resources ahead of the course start.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of college-level pedagogy, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and evaluation.
  • Stay current with developments in pedagogy, including the use of advanced digital and AI-based learning tools.
  • Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives related to communication knowledge and practice.
  • Schedule two office hours per week for student availability.
  • Maintain communication with the assistant department head regarding course or student issues.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Communication or a related field.
  • Demonstrable academic and/or professional experience aligned with course content and requirements.
  • Experience teaching, including remote/online instruction if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using an electronic learning environment, preferably Canvas.
