Adjunct - AY27 Head Women's Basketball Coach

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is the largest community college district in the United States, serving over 40 cities in Southern California. The district comprises nine colleges offering instruction to 225,000 students annually in 600 associate degree and 400 certificate programs.

About the Role

The LACCD is accepting applications for Adjunct Head Women's Basketball Coach positions for the 2027 Academic School Year. This posting establishes a pool of qualified applicants for potential openings at any of the nine LACCD colleges. Applicants may indicate their preferred colleges during the application process and may be interviewed by Kinesiology/Athletic Department members. Final assignments are contingent upon enrollment, funding, and availability.

Responsibilities

• Undertake instructional duties, including classroom teaching, developing and assessing student learning outcomes, managing class rosters, and submitting grades.
• Handle scheduling of games and contests, plan and supervise practices, manage game and travel logistics, and oversee hiring of assistant coaches.
• Scout, identify, and recommend diverse and competitive student-athletes for recruitment.
• Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure compliance with eligibility requirements.
• Manage the basketball program in strict adherence to 3C2A, LACCD Board rules, administrative regulations, and Athletics Department policies.
• Engage in public relations activities, promoting the team and program to media, alumni, and the community.
• Collaborate with college administration to build donor relations and support fundraising efforts.
• Conduct fundraising activities for the basketball program and manage the program’s budget.
• Attend department, district, college, conference, and state meetings as required.
• Represent Los Angeles Mission College and LACCD professionally in all capacities.
• Engage in culturally responsive interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members of diverse backgrounds.
• Participate in curriculum development and other duties aligned with part-time faculty responsibilities.
• Perform additional athletic-related tasks as assigned by the Athletic Director.

This assignment includes weekends, evenings, and holidays throughout the year.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment, or Associate’s degree and six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.
• A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption, as required by LACCD Board of Trustees’ Policy 2900.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Degrees in Education, Physical Education, Exercise Sciences, or Kinesiology are highly valued.
• Coaching Experience: Prior experience coaching in a college environment, demonstrating effective management of a sports program.
• Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to interact and communicate with diverse groups.
• Program Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of basketball program strategies, training methods, and program development.
• Recruitment Expertise: Proficiency in athletic recruitment methods, with an emphasis on ethical and effective strategies.
• Financial Management: Skills in budget preparation and fiscal oversight of the sports program.
• Leadership in Athletics: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor student-athletes, promoting both athletic and personal development.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with 3C2A regulations, particularly regarding recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
• Teamwork and Cooperation: Ability to foster a cooperative and collaborative work environment.
• Administrative Abilities: Competence in making administrative and procedural decisions to facilitate smooth program operations.

Pay

This position is paid at the contractual hourly rate during the season of competition for 10-standard teaching hours, plus an $18,700 stipend for out-of-class activities. Additional compensation may be available for off-season conditioning classes.
