2026-2027 AY Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball – Part-Time
About the role
The Athletics Department at Cal State LA is seeking applications for a Part-time Assistant Coach position for the Women’s Basketball program for the 2026-2027 academic year. Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will assist with all aspects of an NCAA Division II intercollegiate basketball program competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), including practice planning, player development, game preparation, recruiting, video analysis, academic support, team travel, compliance responsibilities, and administrative operations.
Responsibilities
- Aid in developing and implementing team and individual strategies through on-court instruction, player development, and video analysis to maximize competitive success.
- Instruct and mentor student-athletes to enhance athletic performance, teamwork, leadership, and personal development.
- Assist the Head Coach with practice planning, game preparation, and strategy, recruiting efforts, program logistics, and daily operations.
- Support the academic success, retention, and overall well-being of student-athletes.
- Promote positive engagement with the university and community through community outreach initiatives and program representation.
- Maintain compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated coaching experience in athletics, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division II, CCAA, and university rules and regulations relevant to coaching, recruiting, eligibility, and student-athlete welfare.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with video analysis software, scouting preparation, and basketball operations.
- Commitment to student-athlete academic success, equity, inclusion, and personal development.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated coaching experience in athletics, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field.
- Preferred qualifications: Collegiate coaching or playing experience at the NCAA or NAIA level, or successful coaching experience at the high school level. Demonstrated success recruiting prospective student-athletes and familiarity with NCAA recruiting practices.

Benefits
Initial Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the faculty lecturer: Academic Year-month Classification is available based on the following ranges: (per salary schedule 7/1/2024) Full-time equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677. Anticipated salary is commensurate within education and experience.
