About the role

The instructor will teach college level students all subjects in the Airframe and Powerplant courses including electronics, avionics, mathematics and physics. The teaching will include the FAA approved curriculum which will provide students the information necessary to pass the written, oral and practical exams for Airframe and Powerplant certificates.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach various classes in the Aviation Department using proper written and verbal communication skills.
  • Follow industry, government, and manufacturers maintenance practices in the lab areas.
  • Assess and maintain student performance records.
  • Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.
  • Career development and professional growth.
  • Support department assessment initiatives.

  • Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
  • Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.
  • Demonstrate and support professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
  • Complete all required training.
  • Meet College and department deadlines and evaluate student work in a timely manner including submitting final grades on time.
  • Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
  • Accept other duties as assigned.
  • Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
  • Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
  • Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
  • Inform students of progress to date periodically and assign and submit grades by published deadlines.
  • Aid in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  • Handle/respond to student concerns/complaints and respond to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days).
  • Maintain professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  • Complete all required employee trainings.
  • Know and enforce FERPA guidelines.
  • Administer ADA accommodations as needed.
  • Possess high level of processing to dexterity skills in aircraft repair.
  • Ability to relate pedagogically to the needs and interests of students.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to meet the challenges of a broad curriculum and a student body with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of FAA part 91, 121 and 135 flight regulations.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Structures, Systems and Powerplants.
  • Ability to teach basic level maintenance skills.
  • Must pass TSA airport security background check.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to teach basic level maintenance skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of FAA part 91, 121 and 135 flight regulations.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Structures, Systems and Powerplants.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • General aviation and commercial aviation experience.

Qualifications

  • Current FAA AMT Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
  • Experience in transport aircraft category, general aviation, commercial aviation, aircraft inspection and avionics.
  • Knowledge of FAA part 91, 121 and 135 flight regulations.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Structures, Systems and Powerplants.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • General aviation and commercial aviation experience.
  • Ability to teach basic level maintenance skills.
  • Must pass TSA airport security background check.
