About the role
The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research, and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most intractable educational problems.
Responsibilities
- Provides instructional support as a subject matter expert in mathematics content and pedagogy to the USC Mathematics Instructional Advancement Alliance (MIAA) program.
- Designs and delivers 16-week course emphasizing number sense, operations, and foundational number theory while integrating structured fieldwork in California schools serving diverse student populations.
- Guides candidates in analyzing student thinking, identifying misconceptions, and designing responsive instruction focused on whole numbers, factors, multiples, place value, divisibility, primes, equality, and early algebraic thinking.
- Maintains regular communication with candidates, evaluates assignments, provides meaningful written feedback, assigns grades in the LMS, and contributes to course and program improvement through participation in faculty and advisory board meetings.
Requirements
- A minimum of five years of full-time experience as a P–12 mathematics teacher in a diverse school setting.
- Experience in teacher education or leadership related to mathematics teaching and learning.
- A PhD, EdD, or equivalent degree in an education-related field is required.
- Current knowledge of California adopted P–12 mathematics content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems.
- Strong professional practice in teaching, learning, scholarship, and service.
- Experience teaching through Zoom and a Learning Management System.
Qualifications
- California Clear Credential in Foundational or Single Subject Mathematics with English Learner Authorization, or equivalent.
- Graduate-level online teaching experience.
Skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Knowledge of California adopted P–12 mathematics content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems.
- Strong professional practice in teaching, learning, scholarship, and service.
- Experience teaching through Zoom and a Learning Management System.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $7,457- $9,587 per course.
