Duties/Responsibilities

  • Teach applied lessons each week
  • Assist in preparing students for juries and recitals through collaboration
  • Cookordinate with students to establish a regular meeting schedule for the semester
  • Maintain current course syllabi and provide it to all students taught
  • Effectively organize and teach assigned music lessons in accordance with established syllabi
  • Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development

  • Demonstrate excellence of technique and professionalism as a musician
  • Communicate clearly expectations for collaboration with other applied music instructors, and students
  • Able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve
  • Able to organize and present music concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly
  • Manage the lesson studio in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with the department and college objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices
  • Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions
  • Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Music (MM) degree in low brass performance

Preferred Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations

  • Higher Education teaching experience
  • Demonstrated collaborative experience in a variety of musical genres

Physical Activities

  • Frequent (34-66%) repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying and exerting up to 10 pounds
  • Frequent (34-66%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping
  • Constant (67-100%) talking, hearing and viewing various types of close work

Position Details

  • Teaching begins Fall 2026 on the Cedar Rapids Main Campus
  • The position consists of a varied schedule dependent upon enrollment during the academic year
  • This position is a temporary, part-time position scheduled intermittently based on institutional need
  • Adjuncts are not guaranteed work in any semester and are notified of course assignments prior to each term as courses become available
  • Compensation is $668 per 2 credit lesson (1 hour a week) and $334 per 1 credit lesson (half hour a week) per student
