Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

About the Role

Cascadia Health delivers whole health care – integrated mental health and addiction services, primary care, and housing – to promote hope and support the well-being of the communities we serve. The Addiction and Recovery Counselor works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment, providing addiction services to assigned clients. This includes developing or assisting in the development of service plans tailored to each client’s needs while supporting a Trauma Informed Care environment. The incumbent will collaborate with internal and external resources to assure the best possible treatment for clients and participate in the implementation of program goals to promote a strengths-based, client-centered approach.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs and complete an Addiction Assessment.
  • Integrate best practices into day-to-day operations, including Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of client service plans utilizing established treatment models by assessing client behavior.
  • Implement treatment plans utilizing established treatment models.
  • Coach clients in setting their own goals and identifying realistic steps to achieve them.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and recommend alternate strategies as necessary.
  • Work cooperatively in a team setting to coordinate continuity of care with internal and external service providers.
  • Facilitate both group and individual therapy, build relapse prevention plans, conduct family/support person sessions, and termination sessions.
  • Perform UA sample collections weekly for clients, maintaining chain of custody.
  • Adhere to generally accepted treatment standards, departmental rules, company policies, and terms of contracts or grants.
  • Assist with training new staff.
  • Document and maintain electronic health records (EHR) and ancillary records in compliance with agency policies, program procedures, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation associated with billing, assessment, treatment, residents’ progress, consultation, contacts, and other activities.
  • Respect and honor client rights and responsibilities, demonstrating professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols and coordinating with the treatment team to support a trauma-informed environment.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for safety of clients, staff, and property; possess familiarity with fire regulations and evacuation procedures.
  • Understand and abide by federal regulations of Alcohol and Drug information (42 CFR Part 2) and HIPAA regulations for client confidentiality.
  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings.
  • Complete annual employee training requirements as indicated in licensing and agency requirements.
  • Attend seminars, training, and other educational opportunities to develop professional skills and abilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Addictions programming or related field.
  • Must be at least a CADC applicant and eligible for a CADC I, and obtain CADC within two years of applicant status.
  • Preferred: CADC I or CADC II.
  • Knowledge and experience working with clients involved with the Child Welfare System, gender-specific populations, and clients from the criminal justice system preferred.

Skills

  • Understanding of strength-based case management philosophies and strategies.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed services.
  • Ability to implement recovery model, motivational interviewing, and stages of change.
  • Ability to operate computer hardware and software, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software.
  • Knowledge of accepted treatment practices.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data, and prepare simple reports.
  • Knowledge of DBT and Seeking Safety curriculum for men and women.
  • Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment (certifications required and must remain current; training provided upon hire).

Working Conditions

  • Environmental: Work is generally performed in a health center setting in an office environment. Operating hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with 8-hour shifts.
  • Mental: Meal periods and breaks are subject to interruption. Remaining aware and alert is critical to detect and address escalated, potentially volatile situations. Universal precautions should be taken due to exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.
  • Physical Demands: Periods of time spent stationary at a desk for documentation, emails, virtual meetings, and phone calls. Movement around the workspace, between desks and treatment rooms. Constant use of keyboard for data entry into EHR and documentation. Extensive communication to convey therapeutic information. Ability to observe and recognize non-verbal client behavior. Occasional use of stairs, stooping, or transporting supplies. May need to run or move quickly to avoid crisis situations.

Pay

Starting rate range: $24.72 - $25.84 per hour (USD).
