About the role
Responsible for admitting, recovering, and discharging patients from the Cardiac Cath Lab, including providing follow-up care.
Responsibilities
- Handle emergency situations during high-risk procedures.
- Identify physical symptoms and changes, taking appropriate and timely action.
- Assess cardiorespiratory systems for changes in adult to geriatric patients and treat accordingly.
- Observe behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, take appropriate actions, and document.
- Prepare and clean procedure rooms before, between, and after terminal care.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of location, care, and operation of all Cardiac Cath Lab equipment.
- Monitor the patient continuously, avoiding unnecessary absence from the room.
- Document patient data during procedures (heart rate, blood pressure, respirations, pressures, O2 saturation, EKG) and maintain procedure records.
- Ensure preop checklist is complete (H&P present, informed consent signed, test results present, prosthesis/dentures, contacts/glasses) before the patient enters the procedure room.
- Start IVs, monitor IV fluids, and ensure patency of IVs.
- Safely move and transport patients.
- Count narcotics at the beginning and end of each shift with another RN per facility policy.
- Educate patients and their families.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure or compact state licensure in the applicable state of practice.
- ACLS and CPR certifications.
- Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
- Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
Qualifications
- BSN preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in fast-paced cardiac, specials, and electrophysiology settings.
